Nevada Wing Awards and Recognition


Each year at the Nevada Wing Conference, we recognize members for their service and accomplishments.  However, in order to select from the best candidates, we need your assistance to nominate worthy individuals.

 

A description of the awards that may be given at the wing level is listed below.  Use a Nevada Wing Nomination Form for all awards except where indicated in red.

 

You will also find links to CAP regulations and the online forms resource page when additional resources are needed.

 

The Nomination deadline for the 2012 Wing Conference will be announced at a later date.   Submit nominations by email or fax to NV Wing Headquarters.

Nevada Wing Award Categories

 

PILOT OF THE YEAR - POWERED

A pilot who demonstrates a professional attitude toward flying, has a concern for safety, makes an outstanding contribution to the CAP flying program and is active in SAR and Cadet Orientation flying.

 

PILOT OF THE YEAR – GLIDER

A pilot who actively participates in the Nevada Wing glider program by flying with the cadets, properly handles and cares for the glider equipment, and who teaches the fine art of soaring to fellow CAP members.

 

CHAPLAIN/CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR

This is an individual who has contributed in an outstanding manner to the furtherance of the Nevada Wing chaplain/moral leadership program, and who has demonstrated strong leadership in this area of CAP service.

The selection of this individual will be made on the advice of the Wing Chaplain.

 

GROUND TEAM MEMBER OF THE YEAR

A senior member or cadet ground team member who demonstrates a professional attitude toward CAP ground SAR program and has contributed significantly to the success of the ground operations program in the Nevada Wing.

 

MISSION PILOT OF THE YEAR

This is a current Mission Pilot who demonstrates a professional attitude toward the CAP program and is active in the CAP air operations. This person should also have contributed in an outstanding manner to the overall Mission of the Civil Air Patrol.

 

OBSERVER OF THE YEAR

This is an current Observer who demonstrates a professional attitude toward the CAP program and is active in the CAP Search and Rescue program. This person should also have contributed in an outstanding manner to the overall Mission of the Civil Air Patrol.

 

SAR BASE MEMBER OF THE YEAR

A senior member or cadet member who demonstrates a professional attitude and whose abilities have contributed significantly to the Search and Rescue program and correct operation of actual and practice SAR bases in Nevada during the past year.

 

OUTSTANDING WING STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR

This award is given to a Nevada Wing staff member who has excelled in his/her area of responsibility and who shows outstanding leadership ability. This is a person who has provided guidance to the Squadrons and other CAP programs and has demonstrated a professional attitude toward the entire CAP mission.

 

Communicator of the Year

Recognize a current member who has made a significant contribution to the CAP Communications Program as a whole.  Additional details in CAPR 100-1, section 4-8.

 

Public Affairs Officer of the Year

The unit Public Affairs staff member who has excelled in public affairs initiatives and has been instrumental in conducting an exceptional program during the previous year.  Additional details in CAPR 190-1, section 13c.

           

COLONEL SKIP PASUTTI AEROSPACE EDUCATION AWARD

This award goes to a senior member or cadet who best demonstrates a professional attitude and leadership skill in the CAP aerospace education program during the past year.

 

JACK SORENSON CADET PROGRAMS OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is given to the cadet programs officer who has contributed most to the CAP cadet program in the past year.

 

CADET OF THE YEAR – ELISTED RANK

Awarded to a Cadet NCO or Airman who has actively progressed through the program requirements and is demonstrating leadership skills. Nominate this individual on CAPF 58 – Mandatory attachments are not required.

 

CADET OFFICER OF THE YEAR

This award is given to the cadet officer who best exemplifies the goals and achievements of the Cadet Program.  Nominate cadets using CAPF 58 – Mandatory attachments are not immediately required.

 

Selected cadet will be forwarded to Region HQ for Cadet of the Year consideration.  CAPF 58 mandatory attachments will be required at that time.  To be competitive at higher levels, this cadet must meet the requirements listed in CAPR 39-3, section 24.

 

SENIOR MEMBER OF THE YEAR

A Senior Member of the Nevada Wing who has performed his/her assignment in an outstanding manner and one who has contributed above and beyond the call of duty to the advancement of the Civil Air Patrol's missions during the past year.

 

Selected officer will be forwarded to Region HQ for Senior Member of the Year consideration.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 39-3, section 23.

 

MOST IMPROVED SQUADRON

The Nevada Wing Squadron that has made the most significant improvement in participation in the total CAP program for the year. Increases in membership and full member participation in CAP programs are good reasons to nominate this squadron.

 

OUTSTANDING SQUADRON OF THE YEAR

The Nevada Wing Squadron that has demonstrated the best overall performance in accomplishing the Mission of the Civil Air Patrol. Members of this unit participate in professional development, flight clinics, Squadron Leadership Schools, Corporate Learning Courses, etc. The unit participates in actual and practice SAR activities, recruitment of new members, community relations, etc. 

 

SQUADRON COMMANDER OF THE YEAR

A Nevada Wing Squadron Commander who has demonstrated, through his/her example, dedication above and beyond the call of duty and has provided inspiration to others in the performance of his/her duties. This individual exhibits leadership skills and leads by example.

 


OTHER AWARDS NOT INCLUDED ABOVE

 

There may be a need to recognize members for other accomplishments not described above.  If so, submit a Nevada Wing Nomination Form and select “Other” from the Award type.  Describe the purpose and accomplishments for consideration by the Awards Committee.

 

Recommendations for Decorations like Commander’s Commendation and Meritorious Service must be submitted using a CAPF 120.  Please refer to CAPR 39-3 for criteria.

 


REGION AND NATIONAL AWARDS

 

In addition to the Nevada Wing Awards, there are a number of other Awards given by region and national headquarters.  Some of these awards are listed below.  If you feel that a member is worthy of consideration for an award, please review the criteria and nominate them.  Use the Nevada Wing Award Nomination form except where indicated.

 

Colonel Edwin W. Lewis, Jr. Incident Staff Member of the Year

Recognizes the active cadet or senior members in all of CAP who have contributed significantly to the success of CAP’s emergency services and operational mission on the incident staff level.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 39-3, section 26.

 
Colonel Dion E. DeCamp Ground Team of the Year
Recognizes active ground teams, urban direction finding teams, or other ground operations resources that may be developed in the future from throughout CAP who have contributed significantly to the success of CAP’s emergency services and operational mission.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 39-3, section 27.

 

Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year  

Recognizes outstanding performance in the classroom. Nominees must be Civil Air Patrol members and certified classroom teachers from grades kindergarten through twelfth from any public, private, or parochial school. Nominees must either teach aerospace education as a subject or use aerospace education to enrich the teaching of traditional subjects.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 39-3, section 28 and CAPR 280-2, section 4d.  Nominate using CAPF 128.

 

Maj. General Jeanne M. Holm Aerospace Education Officer of the Year  

Recognize and rewards outstanding performance in aerospace education by CAP AE officers assigned duties at the squadron, group, wing or region levels.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 39-3, section 29 and CAPR 280-2, section 4c.  Nominate using CAPF 129.

 

Frank G. Brewer - CAP Memorial Aerospace Awards

Recognition is given to individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions, out of selfless devotion, to the advancement of youth in aerospace activities.  There are 4 categories for this Award: Cadet, Officer, Individual/Organization (non-CAP), and Lifetime Achievement.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 280-2, section 4b.  Nominate using a CAPF 25.

Norm Edwards Counter Drug Officer of the Year  

Recognizes a member’s lifetime contribution to the CAP Counterdrug Program.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 39-3, section 31.

  

Safety Officer of the Year

An annual award presented at the Region level to the safety officer who has contributed most to the CAP safety program.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 62-1, section 8c.

 

Distinguished Aviator Award

This award recognizes outstanding airmanship by a CAP pilot while performing flight duties for CAP. The pilot must demonstrate heroic measures or an extraordinary level of skill, alertness, ingenuity, or proficiency in averting or minimizing the seriousness of a flight mishap.  Additional information is listed in CAPR 62-1, section 8d.
