Parachute Unit

In 1942, a parachute unit was formed in Nevada Wing. It's object was to provide quick medical attention to persons injured in plane crashes or backcountry activities in remote areas of Nevada. It was all part of elaborate plans to rescue persons from Nevada's 110,000 square miles of rough sagebrush country which is, for the most part, inaccessible except by parachute, foot, jeep, or horseback.

After receiving first aid treatment at the scene, the injured persons were transferred to the mounted or jeep unit and transported to civilization on a stretch swung between two horses.
