Commander's Corner

Greetings to the members of Nevada Wing! I have been selected to be your wing commander effective October 2025. I am truly humbled to have the opportunity to lead you for the next three years. Please allow me to share with you my commander’s intent as a blueprint for building our future.

We are a geographically diverse wing and with that comes a variety of backgrounds and experience from our nearly 900 members. We will combine that experience to make our wing stronger, larger, and better able to serve our communities, save lives, and shape futures.

We need strong leaders in Nevada who follow the principles of servant leadership, which are appropriate to an organization like ours. My staff and I will support you in the work you do at the squadron level. By practicing and teaching these principles, I hope to personally inspire cadets and seniors to command at the unit level and beyond through open communication, volunteer effort recognition, and building trust.

We do a terrific job of training our aircrews, ground teams, and support staff. It’s time to use that training to perform real missions. I will work with my staff to build new relationships with emergency management and other government agencies in order to make full use of your skills to save lives and improve the communities we serve.

We must have a sustainable wing. By seeking institutional fundraising and legislative support, we will turn around the continuing loss of our meeting places and mission facilities to build a future where we will always have a solid presence in our communities.

Our cadets are America’s future. All squadrons should work toward the criteria set by the Quality Cadet Unit Award. By having effective meetings and exciting activities, we will have a cadet program that educates and retains the best young adults in our country.

In addition to serving others, we have a responsibility to ourselves. By treating each other as friends, we put ourselves in a better position to help those outside CAP.

You are some of the very best volunteers that CAP has to offer. Together, we can and will succeed in becoming the pride of the Pacific Region and Civil Air Patrol. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Best,

Col. Peter Goertzen
