Cadet Colonel Ryan Lamping Achieves CAP’s Highest Honor: The Spaatz Award
C/Col Ryan Lamping is a disciplined and driven cadet with a strong passion for leadership, service, and personal excellence. He earned the prestigious Spaatz Award, becoming Awardee #2593 on 6 July 2025. Born and raised in Henderson, Nevada, Ryan has been an active and dedicated member of Civil Air Patrol for almost forty months, participating in numerous activities and contributing to several squadrons throughout his cadet career.
As a leader, C/Col Ryan Lamping began his Civil Air Patrol journey in the Spring of 2022 with the Henderson Composite Squadron, where he served for the first two-thirds of his cadet career. During his time there, he held multiple positions, rising through the ranks to become Deputy Commander for Operations. In December 2024, he transferred to the newly rechartered Pahrump Valley Composite Squadron, stepping into the role of Cadet Commander. Over the years, Ryan has attended multiple encampments and activities, most recently returning from National Blue Beret 2025. His favorite experience throughout his cadet career was the time he served as the Color guard Captain for Henderson Composite Squadron, winning the Wing Competition in 2024. Regardless of his position or rank, he valued every opportunity to grow as a leader, serve the future of the program, and contribute to his community. For Ryan, the most meaningful part of his CAP experience has been the connections he has made, learning from and working alongside outstanding individuals and teams. For his service in CAP, he has been awarded the Air Force Association Squadron Cadet of the Year, Veterans of Foreign Wars Squadron NCO of the Year, Commander's Commendation, and Achievement Awards.
Ryan is entering his third year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and a Minor in History. He has consistently maintained a GPA of 3.8 or higher, earning a place on the Dean’s List every semester. His academic success reflects the same discipline and determination he applies to all aspects of his life. Looking to the future, Ryan is eager to serve his country and is exploring opportunities to join the military.
Outside of CAP, Ryan is an active member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and received his Private Pilot License in 2023. His dedication to excellence through his studies, physical training, and personal development display his passion to grow and excel.
