CAP Celebrates 77 Years of Service

CAP was founded on Dec 1st 1941 less than a week before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, during WWII Civil Air Patrol Volunteers conducted aerial patrols on their own and helped stop deadly German U-bout attacks along U.S. coastlines. 

Alongside Coastal patrols, CAP aircrews assisted with other missions on the home front, such as search and rescue, disaster relief, border patrol, and CAP "subchasers" helped stop the loss of American merchant vessels, saving the lives of untold thousands of sailor's and millions of dollars on war equipment. 

Today, CAP continues to make a difference in more than 1,500 communities across the nation, saving lives through search and rescue and emergency services, conducts education and training programs for today's youth. 

In 2018 CAP also celebrated 70 years as the official Air Force Auxiliary to the best Air Force in the world, CAP with over 61,000 members who contribute and help CAP evolve into the premier public service organization that it is today.

This coming year, CAP and its cadet program have been tasked by the Air Force to help identify and train young pilots for future military services, commercial airlines and general aviation.
