West Air Aviation Open House
West Air AviationBy Capt. Jan D, Kopacz, CAP Aerospace Education Officer, Nellis Senior Squadron
West Air Aviation hosted an aviation open house at the North Las Vegas Airport for the first grade classes of Pinecrest Academy Horizon School Monday and Tuesday, April 8thy and 9th. One hundred and fifty first graders, six teachers, and several parents participated.
On display were two warbirds, the KNTV Chopper 13 Bell helicopter, the West Air training fleet Cessnas and a Civil Air Patrol aircraft, N252CP.
N252CP is a 2014 turbo Cessna 206 H G1000 model operated by the Nevada Wing. It was clearly the hit attraction of the open house. All 150 first graders had the opportunity to sit at the controls of the aircraft. They asked amazingly astute questions of the CAP Officers in attendance.
Adults, left to right, in the photograph are CAP Capt. Jan Kopacz, West Air dispatch manager, Mellisa Brewer, CAP Maj. Ezekiel Martin and near the tail, CAP 2nd Lt. Clifford Jackson.
Not shown in the photograph are several West Air employees who were in attendance, Chief Pilot Van Steenis, CFII Alejandra Newport, CFGI Dennis Murray, and Mitch Marcus.
All participants enjoyed a great two day event that the children will fondly remember.
